ஆழி மழைக்கு அண்ணா! ஒன்று நீ கைகரவேல்.
ஆழியுள் புக்கு முகந்து கொடு ஆர்த்து ஏறி
ஊழி முதல்வன் உருவம்போல் மெய்கறுத்துப்
பாழி அம் தோளுடைப் பற்பனாபன் கையில்
ஆழி போல்மின்னி, வலம்புரி போல் நின்று அதிர்ந்து,
தாழாதே சார்ங்கம் உதைத்த சரமழைபோல்
வாழ உலகினில் பெய்திடாய். நாங்களும்
மார்கழி நீராட மகிழ்ந்து ஏலோர் எம்பாவாய்.
இந்தப் பாடலில், ஆண்டாள், மழைக்கு அதிபதியான வருணனை ஒன்று கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறாள்.

என்ன கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறாள்?
ஆழியின் உள்ளே (சமுத்திரத்துள்) புகுந்து (புக்கு), அந்த நீரை எடுத்து (முகந்து), மேகத்திடம் கொடுத்து விடு.
அவ்வாறு கொடுத்தால் என்னவாகும்?
பிரளய காலத்தின் போது, இருக்கும் பெருமான் போல், அந்த மேகங்கள், கருமையாகிவிடும். அதன் பின்னர், பெருமைமிகு தோள்களை உடைய பற்பநாபன் (பத்மநாபன்) கையில் திகழும் சக்கரம் போல், ஒளிமிகுந்த மின்னல்கள் தோன்றும். அந்த பத்மநாபனின் மற்றொரு கையில் இருக்கும் வலம்புரி சங்கு போல, பெரிய முழக்கம் கொண்ட இடி தோன்றும். அதற்குப் பின், அவன் கையில் உள்ள சார்ங்கம் என்னும் வில்லிலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட அம்புகள் போல், மழை, இந்த மண்ணில் பொழியும். இவ்வாறு மழையை நீ (வருணனே) கொண்டுவந்தாயானால், நாங்கள் நன்றாக வாழ்ந்து, பாவை நோன்பை எவ்வித தடங்களும் இன்றி, மகிழ்வோடு மேற்கொள்வோம்.
ஆண்டாளின் கற்பனையைப் பார்த்தீர்களா? மின்னல், இடி, மழை என எல்லாவற்றிலும் நாராயணனையே காண்கிறாள். மழை எப்படி உருவாகும், முதலில் மின்னல் வருமா அல்லது இடி வருமா போன்ற அறிவியல் உண்மைகளை இப்பாடலில் எளிதாக தெரிவித்துவிட்டாள்.

In this song, Andal addresses the rain god (Azhi mazhaikku aNNA - aNNA meaning God). She asks the rain god to do a favour for her.
What is the favour?
Get into the ocean (Azhi yuL pukku), and take the water (mugarndhu) and give (kodu) it to the clouds.
Then they will be dark (mei karutthu) like the lord of deluge (pralayam or oozhi mudhalvan uruvam pOl).
After that we will get lightning as bright as the disc on the hands (kaiyil) of Padmanabha who has beautiful shoulders (paazhi am thOl udai paRpanAban) and then
the thunder that sounds like the valampuri (conch or shanka).
After the lightning and thunder, we will get rain. How is it? It is like the arrows coming out of the lord's bow (sArngam).
She is asking the rain to come so that we will live in this world and pray to Him in margazhi month happily.

In that process, she associates each and everything with the Lord. This should be our mind set too. The entire universe is His creation. So we need to see Him in each and everything in this world.
