நாயகனாய் நின்ற நந்தகோபன் உடைய
கோயில் காப்பானே கொடித் தோன்றும் தோரண
வாயில் காப்பானே மணிக்கதவம் தாள்திறவாய்
ஆயர் சிறுமியரோ முக்கு; அறைபறை
மாயன் மணிவண்ணன் நென்னலே வாய்நேர்ந்தான்;
தூயோமாய் வந்தோம் துயில் எழப் பாடுவான்
வாயால் முன்னம் முன்னம் மாற்றாதே அம்மா! நீ
நேய நிலைக்கதவம் நீக்கேலோர் எம்பாவாய்.

இப்போது, ஆண்டாளும் அவள் தோழிகளும், பெருமாள் கோயிலுக்கு (பாவைக் களம்) வந்து விட்டனர். அங்கு ஒரு காவலன் நின்றுகொண்டிருக்கிறான். அவனை, ஆண்டாள், "நாயகனாய் நின்ற நந்தகோபனுடைய கோயில் காப்பானே" என்று அழைக்கிறாள். ஆயர்பாடியின் தலைவன் நந்தகோபன். அந்தக் கோயிலின் வாயில் எப்படி இருக்கிறது? "கொடித் தோன்றும் தோரண வாயில்" என்று பாடுகிறாள். அதாவது, ஒரு கொடி தெரிகிறது. மேலும் தோரணங்கள் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. அந்த வாயிலில் உள்ள காவலனையும் அழைக்கிறாள். அவனிடம், அழகிய மணிகள் பதிக்கப்பட்ட கதவினைத் திறக்குமாறு கேட்கிறாள்.

"வாயில் காப்பானே, ஆயர் சிறுமியர் யாவரும் வந்து நிற்கின்றோம் (ஆயர் சிறுமியரோ முக்கு). மாயனும், மணிவண்ணனுமான எம்பெருமான், முன்னமே, 'நீங்கள் யாவரும் வாருங்கள். ஒலிக்கும் பறை வாத்தியத்தை (அறை பறை) உங்களுக்குத் தருகிறேன்' என்றார் (நென்னலே வாய்நேர்ந்தான்)" என்று கூறுகிறாள்.

"நாங்கள் யாவரும் தூயவர்களாய் வந்துளோம். அனைவரையும் துயிலெழுப்ப, பறை வாத்தியம் எங்களுக்கு அவசியம். நீங்கள் உங்கள் வாயால், "உள்ளே விடமுடியாது" என்று மட்டும் கூறிவிடாதீர்கள். கதவைத் திறந்துவிடுங்கள்" என்று முறையிடுகிறாள்.

கோயிலில், துவார பாலகர்களை வணங்கிய பின்னரே, பெருமாளை வணங்க வேண்டும் என்ற சம்பிரதாயத்தை ஆண்டாள் இப்பாடல் வாயிலாக நமக்குக் கூறுகிறாள். இன்னொரு கருத்து, காவலர்கள் - நம் குருமார்கள். ஆயர் சிறுமியர் - நாம். குருவின் வழிகாட்டுதலோடு (கதவை அவர்கள் திறப்பார்கள்), நாம் இறைவனை தரிசிக்கலாம் என்ற உள்ளர்த்தம் பொருந்தியது இப்பாடல்.

nAyakanAi nindRa nandhagOpan udaiya
kOyil kAppAnE kodithOndRum thOraNa
vAyil kAppAnE maNikkadhavam thAzhthiRavAi
Ayar chiRumiyarO mukku aRaipaRai
mAyan maNivaNNan nennalE vAi nErndhAn
thooyOmAi vandhOm thuyil ezhap pAduvAn
vAyAl munnam munnam mAtRAthEy ammA nee
nEya nilaik kadhavam neekkElOr empAvAi

Now the girls have reached the lord's temple. They consider it as the palace of NandagOpan (nAyaganaai nindra nandagopan udaiya kOyil). Andal addresses the security (kAppAn) and the gate keepers (vAyil kAppAn) of the temple. Every temple has a flag. Here, she says kodi thOndrum thOraNa vAyil (the entrance which shows the flag (kodi)).

Andal asks the guards to open the door (thaazh thiravaai), laden with valuable gems (maNi kadhavam). She introduces themselves as Ayar chirumiyar (girls of Ayarpadi). "All the girls have come and assembled in front of the temple (Ayar chirumiyarO mukku). Please open the door", she says.

Andal then says that the lord (mAyan, maNivaNNan) has earlier (nennalE) promised (vAi nErndhaan) to give the holy drums that will make sound (aRai paRai) and it would be easy for them to wake up people (thuyil ezha paaduvaan) to join the prayer session. They all have come there with clensed body (thooyOmAi vandhu).

Please open the door (nEya nilaik kadhavam neekke with out saying any excuses (vAyAl munnam munnam mAtRAdhEy ammA nee). This song also emphasises, that first we should worship the dwara paalakaas before worshipping the main deity in a temple. Another aspect is, the guards depict our guru. We are the Girls of Ayarpadi. If we keep worshipping the lord, our guru will open the door to have the darshan of God.
