நாமம் ஆயிரம் ஏத்த நின்ற
..நாராயணா நரனே உன்னை
மாமி தன் மகனாகப் பெற்றால்
..எமக்கு வாதை தவிருமே
காமன் போதரு காலம் என்று
..பங்குனிநாள் கடை பாரித்தோம்
தீமை செய்யும் சிரீதரா
..எங்கள் சிற்றில்வந்து சிதையேலே

இந்தப் பாடலில், ஆண்டாள், இறைவனை, "நீ வர வேண்டாம். வந்து எங்கள் சிற்றில்லைச் சிதைக்க வேண்டாம்" என்று சொல்லி, அதன் மூலம் இறைவன் வரவேண்டும் என்ற தன் விருப்பத்தைத் தெரிவிக்கிறாள். நமக்கு ஒருவரிடம் ப்ரியம் இருந்தால், அவரிடம், "நீங்கள் எல்லாம் என் வீட்டிற்கு வர மாட்டீர்கள்" என்று சொல்லுவோம் அல்லவா? அது போலவே இப்பாடலும்.

ஆயிரம் பெயர்கள் கொண்டவனான நாராயணனே, மனிதனாக இப்பூவலகில் அவதரித்தவனே (ராம, கிருஷ்ண அவதாரங்கள்), உன்னை எங்களது மாமியின் மகனாகப் பெற்றால் (கணவன்) எங்களது துன்பங்கள் தீர்ந்துவிடப் போகிறதா என்ன? மன்மதன் வரும் நேரம் என்பதால், நாங்கள் இந்தப் பங்குனி நாளில், சிற்றில் கட்டி, அலங்கரித்து வைத்துள்ளோம். ஸ்ரீதரனே (சிரீதரா), எங்களிடம் வந்து விளையாடி, நாங்கள் ஆசையாக கட்டிய மணல் வீடுகளைச் சிதைக்க வேண்டாம்.

சிறுமியர்கள், மணலில் கட்டும் வீடு - சிற்றில் எனப்படும். சிறு + இல் = சிற்றில்.

In this song, Anadal asks the Lord not to come and destroy their play houses built of sand. This type of songs are called as nindhA sthuthi. That is by the way of scolding one, we are actually praising them. If we like a person, we want them to come to our home. But we will normally say, "you wont be coming to our home and all". That expression shows that we are longing for their arrival.

Oh Narayana, the one who has thousand names (naamam aayiram), the one who descended to this world as a man [naranE] (rama, krishna), if we get you as our beloved (aunt's son) [maami than maganaaga petrAl], will our sorrows evade? (emakku vaadhai thavirume)

We are awaiting for Manmadhan (kaaman potharu kaalam endru) on this month of panguni (panguni naal kadai paaritthom). So for him, we have built this houses and decorated it. You need not have to come and destroy these houses.
